In February 2005, our community project in partnership with LTPS and the Lawrence Neighborhood Service Center (LNSC) was one of 27 projects to receive the 2005 National Civic Star Award from the American Association of School Administrators for its success in bringing the local school system into closer contact with underserved children and parents.
The children are achieving and their academic success is supported by teacher feedback, rising test scores, and significantly fewer children being classified as needing special education. The success of the efforts of ECV has stimulated more widespread attention to closing the “minority achievement gap” in the Lawrence Township Public Schools. We strive to sustain and build upon this progress to continue to strengthen our children, families, schools, and community. Based on the success of our project, we hope to use our community project as a model for other underserved children within Lawrence Township and Mercer County.
